Evaluation Question 1 - In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The font we used for the title of our film was big and bold. This is because it stands out and is quite intimidating. To start with it was just white on a black screen but then we changed the colour to blue and added a sweeping light effect to make it seem more intense. This is quite similar to the title for the crime film Sket. The bold writing has probably been used to show a hard edge where as ours is creating tension.
The font of our titles is quite a sharp looking one. We
chose to use this so that it would show that something was wrong pretty much straight away. We started off with just Times New Roman but then changed it by stretching it and giving it a slight outline this gave it a little bit more of a creepy element. We also added our titles onto the film rather then have them on black screens like our title.
A film that used a similar font to this for the titles is Coraline although it has been used to convey something quite different and is a lot more delicate looking then the font that was used for our titles.

The location we used for our title sequence was a shop. This is because it was a good place to show the stalker hiding and taking photos. We had to gain permission to film here though.

The costumes that we chose to make our cast wear was just normal modern day clothing. This is because our film was going to be set in this time period.
This is similar to many films of the kidnap/stalker sub-genre of crime.

In this scene we used artificial lighting. This is because we only wanted to have light on one side of the face. This created more tension because you can only see part of an expression.

We wanted to show the personalities of our characters by what they were doing rather then what they said. This scene shows the stalker sneaking into the female toilets which shows he is determined to
get what he wanted and he is also slightly creepy.

This angle is a low angle shot. It is also slightly canted. This shows that something is wrong and it is a common genre convention in most crime films. We challenged the conventions slightly by not making it as obvious as most other films of this genre.

We used a fade to white to show the fact that the stalker had drugged the girl. This adds to the tension because you know that she has passed out and it leaves the audience wondering whats happening.

This still shows that our genre is a sub-genre of crime because of the fake blood on her hand. This is because there is often a lot of violence shown in crime films. We challenged this by not actually showing the violence in our title sequence but it suggests that there has been a struggle between the two people.
